Uganda is home to over 1050 bird species making it a preferred destination for bird watching in Africa. The number of species make up 10% of all of the worlds bird species. It is also home to 24 of the Albertine rift endemics with the rest found in DR Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi. Birds were protected over the years because of the cultural norms attached like being totems for clans or believed to communicate messages from the gods and seasons.

The Pearl of Africa Uganda has 11% of the world’s bird species (1,072) and 50% of Africa’s bird population. Being that Uganda can boost more bird species than any other country in Africa with national list over 1,000 bird species. And because of that it inspired the 39th USA President Jimmy Carter to go for bird watching with Benjamini Musisi (Safari Guide) when he came to Uganda with Sasakawa Global 2000 in June 2001. Uganda is astunningly beautiful destination no wonder Winston Churchill called it the “Pearl of Africa” Although still relatively unknown and unexplored, it is situated in the heart of Africa, right where the East African savannah meets the west African Jungle to create a melting pot of amazing tourism possibilities.
